(Old Prints, 18th Century Prints, Engraved Prints, Title Page, Allegorical Figures, Globe, Cherubs).
Issued 1761, London. Engraved by Benoist
18th century engraved atlas title page. With pleasing hand color which appears to be old/ original to the period.
Sheet is not modern or new, so minor flaws to paper are to be expected. Some light dustiness, toning, age wear or surface spotting/ soiling, all of which is hopefully visible within the zoomable scan. Couple archival tape repairs to centerfold at back to repair a 1 3/4" split at bottom (barely visible to the unaided eye), couple old owners dated inscriptions on back as well, including a woman who owned the atlas in 1766! (Louisa Manners).
A style and manner of depiction entirely unique to this era.
Original centerfold, issued for a very small pocket atlas.
Sheet measures c. 4 7/8" H x 6" W.
Printed area measures c. 4" H x 5" W
