Original early 17th century copper engraved print, trimmed to just outside border neat line. Nice dark clear impression, well nuanced, likely an early pull from the plate.

Great active early scene with a strong militaristic under theme. Numerous Western tall mast ships, men in row boats heading ashore and many individualized figures carrying barrels and cargo to the settled landscape. A large military formation with a sun face flag seen in left side distance, more soldiers riding horses and around a fort on two hills. Yet another army with banners and guns approaches from middle right edge. Compass rose orients north to the left.

Original print mounted at four corners long ago into a later slightly larger backing sheet of hand-made woven paper. Back of engraved print is free of any letter press text. Print would likely readily float free of backing sheet if desired.

Overall, remains a nice looking example with very pleasant age patina, minor slight printers crease near lower left corner in sea area. A couple small age spots as clearly visible, typical slight surface rippling in spots, still a nice looking example.

Backing sheet size c.8 7/8" W x 7" H.

Engraved early printed paper size c. 6" H x 7 1/2" W. Sliver but present narrow blank margins all around the engraved border (neatline).
