Johnnie Dodge, or the Freaks and Fortunes of an Idle Boy, by Charles D. Gardette.
Published 1868, Philadelphia by J.W. Daughaday & Co.
274 pages. Text in English. Wood engraved frontis. Illustrated with numerous wood engraved plates. First Ed.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering & pictorial spine decorations, embossed cover designs.
Book is over 150 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, joints slightly scuffed, lavender spine uniformly lightly sunned (likely from normal shelf exposure to atmosphere and daylight), couple small stains, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, internally clean, still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this rare mid-19th century juvenile book survives.
