$ 88.00

Het Huis in de Morai op Atooi van Binnen

(Native Hawaii Temple & Statues)

Issued c.1802, Leiden

Scarce original antique engraved view print. A detailed depiction from Cook's third and final voyage to this remote and previously little known location.

Fascinating early view of Hawaian burial customs. Scarce variant version issued for a rare Dutch source.

Printed on quality period heavy hand made paper as issued which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness.

In Fair to near Good or better condition:

Condition: BLank margins toned & foxed, bottom left vertical fold-line repaired long ago in typical slightly inexpert old style, paper used, with printed area not joining precisely but not offensively so; normal minor light age toning to sheet as typical to paper of this era, some scattered minor foxing primarily in the blank margin, and some light age wear along the fold lines. However these do not detract from the overall appearance of the image- please inspect visual scan closely.

Looks it's age, shows signs of old repair attempts, not perfect.

Various original fold lines as issued. Item was acquired nicely folded as originally issued and we unfolded it only for photographing. Item will be stored & shipped folded, which is far safer than open.

[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws].

The printed area remains visually pleasing, a nice impression of an interesting and fascinating exploration image from the age of discovery.

Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos.

Sheet measures c. 11 1/2" W x 10 3/8" H.

Engraved area measures c. 10 1/8" W x 8 1/2" H.

Original fold lines as issued.
