L’Amerique Septentrionale.

Issued 1806, Paris by Desray. Map by Herisson. Engraved by Glot.

Charming and historically interesting map of the continent as seen through European eyes early at the start of the 19th century.

Note the blank interior west of the mountain range cutting down from the Arctic circle

deep into Mexico. The only place name west of the Mississippi river is the vast Louisiana territory evidently still largely unsettled and unexplored. New Albion runs along the Pacific coast. The United States as such is still confined to the Atlantic seaboard, Florida and Georgia both carry across to the Mississippi.

Original outline hand color.

Small light age spot, minor signs of handling and time, overall clean and appealing example.

Sheet measures c. 8 1/4” H x 10” W.
