Universal Exposition San Francisco 1915, Celebrating the Opening of the Panama Canal. A Pictorial Review of the Exposition's Progress to March 15th, 1913.
Published 1913, United States by the Panama-Pacific Exposition [committee].
56 pages plus embossed wrappers. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout w/ artistic full page roto-gravure printed photographs.
A well printed souvenir for this relatively minor World Expo, with great photographs and images capturing all aspects of the planning in great visual detail, including views, maps, and many well photographed crowd scenes. The uncredited photographer was almost certainly a professional at the craft, all the artistically and historically interesting images show a consistent attention to composition. Many of these images were also likely issued by this same photographer/ publisher as "real photo" postcards, any attempt of which to locate many of them might prove close to impossible today due to their inherent scarcity and low production numbers.
A nicer than typical photographic Expo item of the era.
Paper wrappers, gilt title lettering, oblong thick bound booklet format, square spine.
Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn and fairly well time soiled, some corner creasing or short edge tears, remains overall attractive as a survival.
Text block paper is gently toned, first leaf is slightly damp stain wrinkled, small speckling to some page edges, couple small stains, etc.- nothing severe not offensive, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this quite uncommon and wonderful antique World Expo booklet survives.
Book Measures c. 8" H x 11 1/4" W.
