Issued October 27th, 1883, New York, by Harper & Brothers. Cover shows Sandy Hook, CT race "Bedouin and Gracie" match. Art by Keetels.
Scarce 19th century weekly newspaper. An actual, complete newspaper issued during Reconstruction era, not a modern re-issue of it.
Filled with commentary about a wide range of athletic and competitive sports of various types. With a great 7 page section of mostly pictorial advertising at the rear of the issue.
Paper uniformly age toned with small scattered spots or stains, as typical, some pages loose, three small puncture holes down spine from having been once inserted into a metal binder. Issue was once placed within in a volume for safekeeping by an early owner and is now free-standing and complete unto itself as originally issued. Like most newspapers even today, few people save them.
Newspaper measures c. 16" H x 11" W.
