Brian DiMambroHarper's Weekly.
(Old Periodicals, 19th Century Newspapers, Americana, Harper's Weekly, Thomas Nast, Santa Claus, Christmas Illustrated Newspapers).
Issued January 1st, 1876, New York, by Harper & Brothers.
One of the iconic 19th century images of Santa Claus by Thomas Nast.
Also includes a fine double page birds-eye view of the Philadelphia Exposition grounds and a double page centerfold by Thomas Nast of children sleeping awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus.
Original 19th century weekly newspaper, illustrated with wood engraved images. An actual, complete newspaper published at the date listed, not a modern re-issue.
Paper uniformly age toned as typical, some damp staining down the fore edge as seen, final page loose, issue was once bound up in a volume and is now free-standing and complete unto itself as originally issued.
Nice looking, clean, well preserved example, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Text on reverse of each page as always, images and maps from Harper's like this are often offered separately for display.
