DANS OP O-TAHITI

(Tahiti)

Issued Leiden & Amsterdam, 1802 by Honkoop, Allart & Van Cleef.

The famous Webber Tahiti Dance image.

Very early Dutch printing/ appearance of this well-known 18th century view relating to the Pacific island of Tahiti. The view is from Cooks 3rd voyage when he re-visited the island in 1777.

In VG, mostly clean condition. Some light offsetting and light foxing, the two center vertical fold-lines torn and mended on verso long ago with matching old paper (the tear extends from the edge, through the letter"t" and just up into the bottom engraved area). Otherwise engraving remains fresh and well-preserved, the split is not distracting, a fine impression from the plate.

A pleasing engraving with fine visual appeal.

Sheet measures c. 16" W x 11 1/2" H.

Engraved area measures c. 14 1/4" W x 8 7/8" H.

Folio. Original fold lines as issued.
