District of Maine 1793 Carleton pre-statehood engraved map w/ fine hand coloring
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints

Issued 1793, Boston for Morse, engraved by Osgood Carleton.
Original antique 18th century map, beautiful hand color. Longitude given from both Washington D.C. & Pennsylvania.
Entire left and bottom margins extended with old paper to back the very narrow margins of the engraved sheet. Tiny loss at lower left corner black border graticule rules, parts of black lines now very nicely manuscript reinstated and easy to overlook or forgive visually.
A very early map of Maine and one which typically when it surfaces does so with various condition issues (likely due to the sheer age, source, location and folding nature of it.
Some paper wrinkling, small old glue stains, etc. Map looks old, which it is, so in fact it looks great. Overall clean example, the flaws confined to the edges and lower left corner which would be of minimal focus if framed for display.
Rare 18th century American early state map in any condition, this example with some various typical paper creasing but largely clean and appealing. Nice looking, perfect for gift giving or display.
