Amerique Septentrionale. (North America).

Issued c.1750, Paris by Vaugondy.

Charming mid-eighteenth century engraved miniature map with lovely full hand color.

The mountains shown in the west are mostly fanciful and merely hint at the topography. Mythical locations known as Quivira and Teguato named, as is New Albion for most of California and Pacific northwest. A giant chain of mountains shown cutting down the center of Florida, news to most modern day observers. Interesting assortment of inaccurate interior rivers as well.

Original fold lines as issued.

Almost folk-art simple geography typical of the era.

Overall clean and attractive example, any age flaws are minor and don't detract visually. Lower left blank margin trimmed narrow as issued to facilitate framing.

Map displays well and looks great.

Map measures c. 6 1/4" x 7 1/8".

Engraved area c. 6" x 6 1/2".
