Item is physically old and shows some clear signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.

Splendid period [likely Dutch] full leather covers, raised bands, gilt decorated compartments, covers with elaborate and beautifully gilt designs, marbled end papers.
Odd volume, number five of a set, but the work is a compilation of letters so this volume contains all the letters he wrote from XX to ZZ, so contents complete unto themselves.
Interior shows some moderate to heavy old damp staining and foxing. Covers retain a handsome shelf appearance.
A collection of letters from Johan de Witt, the leader of the Netherlands from 1653-1672, the height of the Dutch Golden Era. Excellent source in a truly beautiful period ornate European leather binding.
As an aside it should be mentioned de Witt was lynched by a crowd mob and was then eaten by them!
