Ye Foure Etchynges by Maister Simeon Myers. Art of J.M.W. Turner.
Published c. 1885, London by Raphael Tuck & Sons.
5 original steel plate etchings, printed on silk. 19th century Novelty printing item created to appeal to print collectors of the day.
Illustrated lettered paper wrappers, containing five silk sheets which have been printed upon in a press. Wrapper calls for only 4, but mentions an added portrait of the artist Turner, which is indeed found within, bringing the total to five.
Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Paper sleeve is slightly dusty with some light rubbing or small minor soiling, gently age worn, still nice looking, all silk etchings remain very clean and attractive; they all display their original luster, a soft reflective sheen. A lovely and fresh looking set of silk engravings which has likely sat unopened most of its life. Scarce thus.
Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
