Published 1835-6, Philadelphia by E.L. Carey & A. Hart.
526 pages. Text in English. Contains the first numbers of this early literary magazine/ newspaper.
Volume One, Number 1 (Oct. 1835)- Number 6 (Nov. 1835). It's possible there are further numbers within beyond #6, just without a wrapper cover or title heading to identify them?
Contains a long detailed c.120 pp. essay about Hindostan (India) and "Sketches of Anglo-Indian Society". Also includes "Adventures in the Rifle Brigade, in the Peninsula, France and the Netherlands from 1809 to 1815.
Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands & title lettering, marbled covers.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time.
Binding age worn but still appealing, joints cracked or scuffed but covers still strongly attached, spine leather a bit dried and surface crackled, still supple, remains overall attractive as a physical object of this era.
Text block paper is age toned as typical, various scattered spots and small stains internally, book remains mostly tight and sound. This is an antique 185+ year old book which has been handled over the past many decades.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for our detailed attempt to present this rare book as it actually survives. There is no attempt to hide anything but it's virtually impossible to list every single last tiny flaw or minor (normal) age defect which may exist
Book Measures c. 11" H x 7 1/2" W.
