Cruikshank art Loving Ballad of Lord Bateman 1870 fine Zaehnsdorf leather book
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints

The Loving Ballad of Lord Bateman. Illustrated by George Cruikshank.
Publ. London, 1870 by Bell & Daldy. 12 plates, 40 pp.
Attractive early 20th century 1/2 leather binding by Zaehnsdorf, gilt title lettering & stamped compartments, raised bands, top edge gilt, marbled boards & end papers. Handsome binding.
Book is physically old and shows some mostly light signs of handling and time.
Binding scuffed along joints and gently age worn but still appealing, leather lightly rubbed and scuffed in spots but still clean and attractive, remains overall very attractive as an object.
A splendid style of custom book binding that looks nicer in person than the close-up photo indicates (which seems to accentuate the wear).
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains tight and sound.
A book which has been taken care of but was used and does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf.
Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this charming and rare book as it survives.
Book Measures c. 5 1/2" x 4 3/8".
