Decorative publisher’s gift book 1850 red ornate gilt leather Moss Rose engrvngs
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints

The Moss Rose for 1850.
Publ. 1850, NY by Nafis and Cornish.
312 pages. Text in English.
Attractive mid-19th century full leather binding, gilt title lettering, ornate gilt spine and cover decorations. Hand colored floral frontis plus 8 engraved plates.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing, leather rubbed but still attractive (covers still strongly and well attached), spine uniformly age darkened with short 1.75” split to leather at base of front joint, gilt slightly rubbed but still bright, covers slightly bowed, remains overall very attractive as an object.
A splendid style of mid-19th century book binding that looks nicer in person than the close-up photo indicates (which seems to accentuate the wear).
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, some page corners bent/ creased, various scattered small foxing and staining, internally book remains mostly tight and sound.
A book which has been taken care of but was used and does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf.
Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this charming and rare book as it survives.
Book Measures c. 7 1/2” x 5 1/8”.
