Brian DiMambro(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Leather Books, Marriage Advice, Domestic Life, Marriage).
Domestic Happiness Portrayed: Or, A Repository for Those Who Are, and Those Who Are Not Married.
Published 1831, New York by Charles Spalding.
428 Pages. Text in English. Engraved frontis protected by original tissue guard (small edge chip in side blank margin).
Attractive antiquarian full leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands & title lettering, covers gilt ruled in decorative outline pattern.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Early 1837 owners inscription of Simeon Gardiner.
Binding age worn but still appealing, leather and joints scuffed and rubbed but still supple, crease down spine center from opening, chipping at head of spine, remains overall very attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, text block shaken with a couple signatures slightly protruding. A book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.Â
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this rare early 19th century advice book as it survives.Â
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than they appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take numerous photos and try to describe it openly and honestly.
