Last Days of Pompeii Bulwer Lytton 1839 fine ornate leather book
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints

Last Days of Pompeii. By Bulwer Lytton.
Publ. 1839, London by Bentley. Engraved 1/2 title and frontis. 419 pp. Scarce early edition issued just 5 years after the first edition issued in 3 vols.
Attractive 19th century 1/2 leather binding, gilt title lettering, ornately blind stamped spine, marbled covers. Handsome binding. Early engraved armorial book plate.
Book is physically old and shows some mostly light signs of handling and time.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing, small scuff abrasion near title, leather lightly rubbed and scuffed in spots but still clean and attractive, remains overall very attractive as an object.
A splendid style of historically unique book binding that looks nicer in person than the close-up photo indicates (which seems to accentuate the wear).
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains tight and sound.
A book which has been taken care of but was used and does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf.
Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this charming and rare book as it survives.
Book Measures c. 6 5/8" x 4 1/4" W.
