Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints

Songs of Praise and Poems of Devotion in the Christian Centuries. Introduction by Henry Coppee. Elegantly Illustrated.
Publ. Philadelphia, 1866 by E.H. Butler. 264 pp. Heavily illustrated with 61 brilliantly engraved in-text illustrations, all signed in the plate by the engraver and all done at a level approaching bank note engraving quality.
Period full gilt embossed leather gift book, gilt edges.
Some scuffing along joints and extremities. Front joint still sturdy and holding well but front cover is very heavy so joint is slightly tender from the repeated stress of being opened and closed.
Pictures capture well how this beautiful antique book survives. Nicer than it sounds or looks in the pics. A large and impressive gift book of the era. This would have been a very expensive book when new, clearly a luxury purchase.
Clean, sound, tight, wonderful looking book on a shelf.
