Story for the Fourth of July, by Uncle Ned. An Epitome of American History Adapted to Infant Minds.
Published c. 1830's, New York by Kiggins & Kellogg.
16 pages. Text in English. Wood engraved images including American eagle on title page.

Publisher's green pictorial paper wrappers. Patriotic American culture taught to young children in the middle of the 19th century around the time the country was at war with itself.

Charming Civil War era juvenile American chap book. Of note for the full page wood cut of the native American Indian holding his bow crouched atop a cliff rock overlooking a European ship in the distance approaching.

Book is over 150 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.

Binding age worn, typical (but mostly light) signs of handling from young hands, but nothing offensive or severe, remains overall attractive as an object.

Paper is gently toned, various typical small spots, still sound, original binding thread in place. Overall very agreeable given the small size, fragile nature, date and intended audience.

Still attractive on the shelf, it displays a pleasing and unique age patina, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail showing how this uncommon little item survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books and ephemera of all types. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.
