918 pages plus index. Text in English. Second Edition, enlarged, with several printer type setting mis-paginations, not affecting text. Decorative wood cut initial, head and tail pieces throughout, no maps (as issued). With 1653 owners name and date written in blank margins within (p. 900).
Book lacks original Title page, here supplied in facsimilie. "To the Reader" section prior to main text body lacks a leaf. Book is collated textually complete from Contents on, including the long detailed list of authors [hundreds of early explorers names] plus the extensively detailed index at rear, through Finis and errata on reverse.
A famous early monumental work relating early voyages to all parts of the world, including Africa, Middle East, Asia and Americas. Considered a key and important work, including extensive commentary and description of North America particularly of Canada, New England (New France), Virginia, Florida, Mexico, etc. with remarkable descriptions of the Indians (original inhabitants), man eating cannibals' of Brazil, accounting of religious sacrifices, etc.
Among the accounts of early voyages are Cortes, Pizarro, Drake, Cavendish, Hawkins, Magellan, van Noort, Spilbergen and Barents. Also Portuguese voyages to East Indies are described, Jesuit voyages to China and Japan, East India Company voyages and those of the Muscovy Company.

Later institutional cloth binding, gilt title lettering, marbled edges. Missing original title page.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, joints slightly scuffed, slightly rubbed, remains overall sound.
Text block paper is gently toned, first few leaves with heavier soiling and wear from thumbing, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. Complete text.
A rare and historically valuable work, priced low accordingly to allow for facsimilie title and later cloth binding.
