Waverley, or 'Tis Sixty Years Since, by Sir Walter Scott.
Published 1828, New York by William Burgess.
2 volumes, each c. 250 pages. Text in English.
Period "cathedral" leather bindings, smooth spines, gilt bands, gilt compartment decorations, gilt title lettering, gilt ruled covers, embossed cathedral window cover decorations.
Rare imprint, a very early American edition of Sir Walter Scott in a splendid pair of decorative bindings.
Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Overall rubbing, scuffing along extremities, but a splendid and pleasing set, much nicer than typical for sets of this era.
Interior contents display a uniform age patina largely free of age spotting or foxing. Any age flaws are easy to overlook or forgive. A beautiful antiquarian set. Decorative style uncommon in this level of preservation.
