Art Treasures of Germany. A Collection of the Most Important Pictures of the Galleries of Dresden, Cassel, Brunswick, Berlin, Munich, and Vienna. With Portraits of the Most Celebrated Masters and Explanatory and Biographical Notices by A. Gorling, B. Meyer, and A. Woltmann.
Published c. 1860-70's, Boston by Samuel Walker & Company.
198 pages plus engraved plates. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout with over 75 fine well done steel engravings. Binders tag to front pastedown.
Attractive antiquarian full leather binding, slightly raised bands, gilt & embossed compartment decorations, gilt title lettering, embossed cover designs, all edges gilt.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Huge thick heavy volume.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing, leather and joints scuffed and rubbed, front joint cracked but still supple, remains overall very attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A monumental plate book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this splendid book as it survives.
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than they appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take numerous photos and try to describe it openly and honestly.
Book Measures c. 12 3/4" H x 9 1/2" W.
