2 volumes. 464, 467 pages. Text in English. Folding map in each volume. Engraved frontis portraits and half titles. Profusely illustrated throughout with upwards of 300 images, many full page steel engraved plates, engraved plates protected by tissue guards.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, embossed pictorial cover decorations which depicts a ship in the Arctic and an American Eagle.
Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings age worn, cloth is rubbed, spine ends chipped, yet still remains overall attractive as a set.
Text block paper is lightly toned, some light to moderate scattered age spotting on some plates.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
