The Bell Hotel, Southgate Street (Near the Cathedral), Gloucester.
Published c. 1905, London by Alex, Matthews & Company.
44 pages. Text in English. Illustrated throughout. Abundant period advertising interspersed throughout the many b& w photographic images.
Charming promotional tourist booklet issued by this particular likely grand hotel only. Scarce, not to be confused with commercial tourist items sold in shops and news stands. Includes a full page pictorial ad for the dentists "Boodles Teeth".
Publisher's red paper wrappers, gilt title lettering and art nouveau inspired pictorial cover decorations.
A fresh survival, looks like it was set aside 100 years ago and has just emerged.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently rubbed and ever so slightly age worn, light signs of handling but nothing offensive or severe, remains overall attractive as an object.
Paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this ephemeral item survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books and ephemera of all types. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.
