Blackie's Commercial Handbook.
Published c. 1860's, Glasgow by Blackie & Son.
356 pages. Text in English. Wood engraved half title.
Attractive near miniature antiquarian full leather binding, gilt title lettering, embossed spine & cover decorations.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing, leather and joints rubbed but still supple, short thin splitting to rear joint at ends (covers still strongly and well attached), spine gilt rubbed, remains overall very attractive as an object. A splendid style of binding that looks nicer in person than the close-up photo indicates (which seems to accentuate the wear).
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, some page corners bent/ creased, various scattered small stains from useage, internally book remains mostly tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but was used and does not look like new.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this charming and rare little near miniature book as it survives.
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than they appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take numerous photos and try to describe it openly and honestly.
Book Measures c. 3 1/2" H x 2 1/4" W.
