(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Americana, Diaries, Journals, Leather Books).
Diary and Memorandum Book for 1865, Containing a Blank Space for Every Day of the Year, Cash Account, Bills Payable and Receivable, and Memoranda.
Published 1864-5, Boston for The Trade by Geo. C. Rand & Avery.
c. 200 pages. Text in English.
With the original owners name to front fly leaf: E. Batchelder. Journal appears to be about the daily weather and people who helped them, visited, some mentions of going to meetings (Elder Richardson preached), etc. We are unsure if this person was involved or living in the Shaker community.
Period leather wallet style binding with closing tab, marbled edges, gilt lettering.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, light scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
