Brian DiMambro(Old Books, 20th Century Books, Illustrated Books, Children's Books, Juvenile Books, French Books).
Charlemagne et Roland.
Published c. 1910-20, Paris by Librairie Hachette.
12 pages counting wrappers. Text in French. Color illustrated throughout in El Zier's splendid style, essentially a French picture book.
Publisher's color lithographed pictorial card stock paper wrappers, saddle stitched.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding well age worn, spine split with both covers detached and now loose, bottom corner chipped, some edge splits, paper is brittle, several small neat archival tape repairs, mostly light or inoffensive signs of handling and time but nothing severe or unsightly, book remains overall attractive as an object.
Paper is uniformly well toned, still clean internally. DEspite the relatively poor physical condition the illustrations remain visually pleasing.
Still attractive on the shelf. The uncommon early 20th century thin fragile book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account.
