The Laws of Contrast of Colour: and Their Application to the Arts.
Published 1861, London by Routledge, Warne, and Routledge.
243 pages. Text in English. Complete with 17 color lithographed plates by Edmund Evans. An extra folding color litho plate loosely laid in at rear by previous owner.
Not to be confused with earlier printings which only had four plates, this expanded color plate version printed by Edmund Evans is much scarcer and more desirable. We've been informed there should be a moveable volvelle on plate 7 which is not present here.
Publisher's gilt pictorial cloth binding.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, cloth slightly rubbed, small minor thin marks to rear cover, hinges cracked, covers strongly attached as issued, overall remains quite attractive as a mid-19th century color plate book.
Text block paper is gently toned, some pages slightly shaken or protruding slightly, couple plates with small edge chipping in blank margins, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this antique book survives.
