c. 260 pages. Text in English. Tile, elaborate allegorical half-title, complete with 100 full page engravings, all signed in the plate by various engravers including B. Clowes.
Rare and pleasing mid-19th century craftsman's visual workbook, all the images depicting interior home design pattern of "high style" in the English and French decorative arts. Includes examples of beautiful title pages, book plates, mirror frames, tables, door surrounds, fire place mantels, etc. of use to wood carvers, cabinet makers, ornamental painters, plasterers, brass workers, modellers, silversmiths, architects and general designers.
1/4 leather binding, newer smooth spine, original covers with early leather joints and patterned cloth boards.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, spine nicely rebacked in leather, covers edge worn and a bit rubbed, binding remains overall clean and attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, plates mostly clean, light minor scattered spots, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
