The History of the Life of Marcus Tullius Cicero in Three Volumes, by Conyers Middleton.
Published 1742, London for W. Innys & R. Manby.
3 volumes. 423, 438, 380 pages. Engraved half title vol. 1. Publisher's catalogue at rear of volume 1. Text in English.
The once fine old leather bindings survive in somewhat POOR condition due to the lacking spine and detached rear cover of one book. Interior contents sound, clean and tight. Lacks spine leather of vol. 3, joints cracked, rear cover vol. 1 detached
Likely 19th century full leather bindings, gilt compartment decorations and title lettering, gilt noble coat of arms stamped cover decorations to all six covers.
Set is physically old and shows clear signs of handling and time. Set is not in "new" condition.
Leather scuffed and gentle rubbed, joints cracked, yet the front covers retain a noble appearance and remains overall attractive, worthy of display facing outward within a library shelf.
Text block paper is gently toned, most printed leaves quite clean and fresh in appearance, light minor age spotting to some blank margins, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
