(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Children's Books, Adventure, Americana, Florida coast adventures, nautical).
The Young Marooners, on the Florida Coast; or, Robert and Harold, by F.R. Goulding. "New and Enlarged Edition".
Published 1866, Philadelphia by James Claxton.
446 pages. Text in English. Wood engraved frontis. Illustrated with numerous wood engraved plates throughout.
Scarce American juvenile with a wonderful pictorial spine likely unique to this publisher. [see Peter Parley to Penrod, p. 9].
Publisher's gilt pictorial cloth binding, embossed ruled covers.
Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition, but is remarkably well preserved for an object over 150 years old.
Binding lightly age worn, joints and extremities lightly scuffed, gilt spine bright, cloth well preserved, book is square, fresh, remains very attractive as a mid-19th century book. Nicer than typical for publishers gilt bindings of this era.
Text block paper is clean, internally well preserved, minor light scattered age spotting or small staining, any flaws of a minor type unworthy of specific mention.
Still attractive on the shelf. Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Looks nicer in person than in the pictures.
