Le Petit Flambeia de la Mer ou le Veritable Guide des Pilotes Cotiers, by Bougard.
Published 1694, Paris by Jacques Hubault.
413 pages. Text in French. Contains 64 woodcuts maps and countless dozens of coastal profile views.
Period 1/2 leather binding, gilt bands, title in gilt on contrasting black leather band, marbled covers.
Covers detached, leather dried, covers rubbed and age worn. Perforated institutional stamps to title page & one other leaf (seen). Old library bookplate to pastedown (showing de-accessioned). Minor old worming to some blank margins. The age flaws are rather easy to overlook or forgive given the rarity of the atlas.
Very rare 17th century "pocket" coastal atlas in any condition.
Front cover detached, but binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Interior contents show some spotting or foxing.
Contains 64 (often full page) wood cuts maps depicting the harbors and coasts of England, Ireland, Spain, Balearic islands, France, Italy, Corsica & Sardegna, Sicily, Malta, North Africa, Cape Verde, India, and others.
Book measures: 7 1/8" H X 5 3/4" W.
