Death remembrance miniature book 1824 gilt leather binding signed Kezia MurdenBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
(Death remembrance miniature book 1824 gilt leather binding signed Kezia Murden). Wonderful age patina, clearly a special tiny little book with an almost heart-breaking provenance.
Note-worthy early evidence of the original tender ownership of Kezia Murden, mother of Charles.
Clearly a beloved and much treasured object for this grieving mother, a tiny personal book given to her from her prematurely and much missed deceased son, Charles.
Owners name stamped in gilt to front cover, early pencil signature of Kezia on front blank fly-leaf. Early ownership writing about her deceased son in three places, including two early handwritten notes on thicker paper in her hand, pasted into the book around half-title.
The Seasons, by James Thomson. 1824, London, Jones & Company. pp. 136. Engraved portrait frontis and half-title.
Beautiful early 19th century full leather binding, near miniature format, just over 3 1/2" tall. Nicer than typical for the type of miniature leather binding and era.
Full polished calf, spine splendidly gilt decorated in floral devices, contrasting gilt title, covers in outline gilt rule, edges gilt stamped, marbled end papers. A miniature leather binding gem.
A touching and special little book with a tender provenance, utterly unique and unlike any other surviving example in any binding or condition.
Short video captures condition and appearance much better than words. Please watch prior to purchase to ensure a clear understanding of the book.
Wonderful period full calf leather binding, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Pleasing age patina to the item, impossible to recreate and very different from any modern book.
Book measures: 3 5/8" H X 2 3/8" W.
