(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Memoirs, Diplomatic History, Ottoman Empire, Illustrated Books, Ethnography).
Diversions of a Diplomat in Turkey, by Samuel S. Cox.
Published 1887, New York by Charles L. Webster & Co.
685 pages. Text in English. Steel engraved frontis portrait protected by original tissue guards. Profusely illustrated throughout, including two full page chromolithographs.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, spine decorations, embossed pictorial cover designs.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time, spine is uniformly sun faded and lightly soiled. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn with uneven sun fading to cloth cover and spines, joints scuffed, remains overall attractive as an object. There is a small inexplicable tiny puncture hole through the rear cover and last 50 pages or so in the blank margins.
Text block paper is gently toned, mostly clean, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
