Discovery of color Mauve & Coal-Tar colour Industry 1906 Perkin rare plate bookBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
(Old Books, Early 20th Century Books, Arts, Visual Arts, Graphics, Color Theory, chemistry of colour).
Jubilee of the Discovery of Mauve and of the Foundation of the Coal-Tar Colour Industry, by Sir W. H. Perkin.
Published c. 1906, London by George Edward Wright.
77 pages. Text in English. Illustrated throughout with 7 beautifully printed rotogravure bw plates printed on heavy paper protected by original tissue guards plus three other offset plates [1 fldg].
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering & cover designs.
A very scarce English book relating to the business of the industrial use of color.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, spine, back and joints uniformly sunned, remains overall fairly clean and attractive as an object, gilt designs and lettering still bright and reflective.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, nicely printed plates, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. Given the small number initially printed, no doubt a difficult book to find in nicer condition.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
