Published 1857, London by Smith, Elder & Co.
350 pages. Text in English. Illustrated throughout. Publisher's 16 pp. catalog at rear [dated June 1857]. Binder's tag of Westley's, London.
With the original owner's pencil inscription to half-title which is dated July 26, 1857, 1 Ashland Place, N.Y. which is a fascinating early date in reference to issuance date.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, embossed cover designs.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, slight minor rubbing and small light rub spots on front cover, signs of handling but nothing offensive or severe, remains overall attractive as an object. Overall much nicer than typical for cloth books of this era.
Paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
