(Old Books, American Books, 19th Century Books, Atlas).

A Compendious System of Universal Geography, Compiled from the Latest and Most Distinguished European and American Travellers, Voyagers and Geographerby Elijah Parish, D.D.

Published c.1807, Amherst, NH, by Joseph Cushing.
212 pages.

Original paper covered wooden boards, leather spine.

Includes pages of interesting early descriptions of early American Territories. The trees used to make the covers are 18th century American forest wood.

Book shows signs of age, time and handling, but is still sound and tight. Covers worn, edge chipped and rubbed, some of the original wooden boards exposed at edges, most of the original blue paper still present. Actually a much nicer survival than typical for American school books of this era. Most have disappeared, the small number which do survive in very poor condition, which is totally understandable given their intended audience and use (children for didactic youthful school instruction).

Actually a scarce book thus in such overall nice antiquarian condition.
