2 volumes, each c. 625 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout. [Vol. 1: 72 plates, vol. 2: 79 plates], total of 151 engraved portraits plus two engraved half titles. Includes Presidents, authors, scientists, all types of important and influential historical figures.

Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather bindings, raised bands, gilt title lettering, embossed compartment decorations.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. 

Bindings gently age worn but still sound and appealing, leather and joints slightly rubbed but still supple, cloth covers display some old sunning, remains overall very attractive as a set. 

Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
