Figaro in London.
Published 1832, London by W. Molineux for William Strange.
4 volumes, each c. 220 pages. A complete run of the first 212 issues. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout with humorous woodcut illustrations.Â
A scarce long run of over 200 consecutive issues of this very early popular press satirical pictorial humor journal.
Early example of publisher's plain cloth bindings, produced before the more decorative, gilt lettered bindings of the mid 19th century. Original paper spine labels survive on two volumes (illegible).
Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings gently age worn, joints scuffed with splits in spots, some chipping, soiling to cloth, set remains overall sound.
Text block paper is gently toned, mostly clean, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.Â
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this rare antique set survives.
