The Works of Flavius Josephus, Translated into English by Sir Roger L'Estrange.
Published 1755, London for R. Ware, J. and P. Knapton, S. Pirt...
695 pages plus index. Text in English, 3 large plates, 3 folding maps (one with long tears and in poor condition).
Period full reverse calf (suede-like) leather binding, raised bands.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition, it has been read and handled to the point of the covers falling off.
Binding heavily age worn, leather dried, scuffed, and rubbed, front cover detached, rear joint cracked, rear cover held only by binding cords, yet curiously remains overall attractive as a huge hand made mid-18th century object. Text block still sewn as issued.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, plates range from clean to offsetting, one large folding map with long tears and in poor condition, internally still tight & sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a unique age patina, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
