Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints[French Literature- Literary Criticism- Leather bindings].
Lecons Francaises de Litterature et de Morale, Vols. 1 & 2, par M. Noel.
1816, Paris, Le Normant, Imprimeure-Libraire. pp. 618, 612.
Period full mottled calf, smooth spines richly gilt decorated and ornamented with devices, lozenge patterning and contrasting morocco title labels gilt lettered. Covers outline ruled in running gilt patterns, gilt ruled inner dentelles, marbled end papers, all edge gilt.
Leather still supple, but once age dried and now with cracked joints, small chipping to spines, front covers loosened and firmly held by binding cords. Despite any condition issues, set remains handsome on the shelf with great visual appeal and a unique age patina impossible to recreate in modern bindings.
Short video captures condition much better than words. Please watch prior to purchase to ensure a clear understanding of the set. Nicer bindings than typical for the type of work.
Books measure: 8 1/4" H X 5 1/2" W.
