4 volumes, each c. 400 pages. Text in English. Engraved frontis protected by original tissue guard, many fine photo-etched plates throughout, index at rear of vol. 4.
"Edition des Amateurs". Limited edition: #30 of 100. All plates supplied in duplicate, each printed on diff. paper.
Period full leather bindings, raised bands, gilt title lettering, all edges and turn ins gilt, deckled edges, floral end papers, top edges gilt.
Set is over 100 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings gently age worn, leather still supple, tiny minor nick spots or small flaws to leather in spots, overall set remains overall very handsome with attractive shelf appearance.
Someone has used ink pens to heavily annotate the first 95 pages in vol. 1, rest of the set is free of this annotation or other markings.
Text block paper is gently toned, internally still clean, well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
