Engraved frontis portrait protected by original tissue guard, six steel engravings total, plus many wood engraved plates, including a nice assortment with original hand color. Publisher's catalog at rear. As often seen, lacking the large folding panorama publisher inserted at rear. A classic work by one of the most popular authors of the day.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, gilt spine & cover floral decorations, gilt cover portrait.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding rubbed and moderately age worn, still sound and tight, signs of handling but nothing offensive or severe, remains overall quite attractive as a mid-19th century object.
Paper is uniformly toned, scattered signs of spotting and small stains, tissue guards still present, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
