Godey's Lady's Book & Magazine.
Published 1853, Philadelphia by Louis A. Godey.
6 monthly issues. 572 pages, profusion of plates and images. Text in English.

Profusely illustrated throughout with numerous steel engravings, many wood engraved images, colored paper, 3 hand colored fashion plates (plus 3 uncolored ones), etc. All fashion plates present, contents appear complete.

Period 3/4 fine leather binding, spine gilt lettered with date and patterns to raised bands, marbled boards.

Text block clean, tight and overall very well preserved. Nice looking example. Light signs of usage and age, joints are a bit rubbed or scuffed, but as the pictures show, still a very handsome looking old book. The leather remains supple.

A profusion of charming and frequently well executed steel engraved and wood engraved plates, plus many line drawings, various types of folding plates, music, patterns, topics of interest, music, travel, real estate, art technique, themes, etc.

A wonderful illustrated mid-19th century book aimed at the rapidly emerging more urbanized middle class American woman, with a broad range of images on many topics aimed at self-cultivation and edification.

An uncommon survival in this condition, nicer than typical in the marketplace for this title and type of book.
