Hannah More English Writer 1839 Collected Letters & Biography 2 vol. set booksBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Letters, Correspondence, Hannah More, English Writers, Biography).
Memoirs of the Life and Correspondence of Mrs. Hannah More, Volumes I and II, by William Roberts.
Published 1839, New York, Harper & Brothers.
2 Volumes: 483, 479 pages, complete. Text in English. Engraved frontis portrait in Volume 1 protected by original tissue guard.
Publisher's early ruled cloth bindings, gilt spine lettering, text blocks with deckled edges.
Set by this famous female writer is over 180 years old and shows some clear signs of handling and time, such as cloth splitting along the joints and spine ends as typical. Set is not new or in "new" condition, but as far as cloth bindings of this era go, pretty well preserved. Any cloth set from this era which survives and looks as clean and fresh as this one should be considered scarce to rare on the basis of condition alone. Cloth retains a subtle reflective sheen in the light.
Text block paper is gently toned, scattered light age spotting (heaviest on endpapers, almost certainly offset spotting from binders glue or cloth), internally still fresh, clean, well preserved, tight and sound. A set which has seemingly sat untouched for most of its life.
Still attractive on the shelf, any age flaws found for us are easy to overlook or forgive, nothing is offensive nor severe.
