The History of England from the Revolution to the Death of George the Second, by T. Smollett.
Published 1794, London by T. Cadell.
8 volumes, each c. 375 pages. Text in English. Illustrated with 28 finely engraved plates, including Royalty, Kings, Queens, etc.
Although the spines indicate this was issued as part of a larger set, this is the complete work unto itself and complete in these 8 volumes.
Period full mottled calf leather bindings, smooth spines, gilt title lettering on contrasting red & green leather labels, gilt compartment decorations and board edges.
Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings gently age worn, leather a little scuffed or rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, remains overall attractive as a set. Rich shelf appearance.
Text block paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. Nice little 18th century set in this small pocket sized format.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
