Hanes y Nef A'r Ddeaar: Sef Daearydiaerth a Dull a Threen y sar A'r Plandau, by Josiah Thomas Jones.
Published c. 1848 Caerfyrddin by J.T. Jones.
791 pages. Text entirely in Welsh. 7 engraved maps throughout, complete. Maps display imprint of Edinburgh by Oliver & Boyd.
Rare mid-19th century geographical gazetteer of the world, with maps of the continents, world and England.
Period full leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands.
Book is physically old and shows clear signs of heavy handling, consultation and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding well age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints split but covers still well held, remains overall attractive as an object. Maps are clearly much browsed, with some soiling and splitting along centerfolds, large folding world map with old repair as seen.
Text block paper is age toned, moderate to heavy scattered age staining, soiling and small spotting, still tight & sound.
Book displays a unique age patina, because of the rarity any age flaws seem to us easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this c.170 year old book survives.
Book Measures c. 8 3/4" H x 5 5/8" W.
