Portion of frontis map remains, engraved map of South America (no map of North America).
Contains fascinating early descriptions of all parts of the United States, including western regions still largely inhabited by natives. Also covers commerce, trade, economics, militia, manners and culture, etc.
Volume one of a two volume set, but contents complete unto themselves for the locations given (vol. 2 was devoted to the world outside the United States and Americas).
Period full leather binding, smooth spine gilt ruled into compartments, lettering on contrasting black leather label.
Item is physically old, and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding age worn, small hole in spine leather, ends chipped, joints cracked, edges worn, leather scuffed. Yet still remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is well age toned, but still square, sound and tight.
Still attractive on the shelf. Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
