Palamedes of Vermoorde Onnozelheit Treurspel, by J. v. Vondels.
Published 1707, Amersfoort by Pieter Brakman.
82 pages. Text in Dutch. Engraved frontis portrait and half title, further illustrated with 12 full page copper engravings throughout, including one with a transformation overlay/ moveable flap which alters the engraved scene when lifted. Two parts in one.
Scarce early 18th century Dutch book with engraved plates and portraits.
Period full speckled calf leather binding, raised & gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting black leather label, gilt ruled covers.
Book is over 315 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints scuffed and splitting (although both covers remain strongly and firmly attached), small chipping to spine head, remains overall sound and attractive as an early 18th century hand made object.
Text block paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
